Seating Audition Expectations

Here are the Seating Audition Expectations for all instruments.


Winds and Brass: (Solo for those auditioning for principal seat)

Violins: (If you want to be considered for 1st violin, you must prepare the 1st violin excerpts, however, you will be seated in either section as the coaches deem appropriate.)


Violin I: (Solo for those auditioning for concertmaster)

Three octave Major or minor scale slurring three or four notes per bow. Overture to “Les Abencerages” Measures 1-25 Optional: Haydn Symphony No. 94 measures 38-73. Haydn Symphony No. 94. Measures 154-182 ( “O” and goes to 6 measures after letter “P” )

Violin II: (Solo for those auditioning for principal seat)

Three octave Major or minor scale slurring three or four notes per bow. Overture to “Les Abencerages” Measures 1-25

Optional: Haydn Symphony No. 94 measures 38-73.


Viola: (Solo for those auditioning for principal seat)

Three octave Major or minor scale slurring three or four notes per bow.
